Privacy Policy

The short version: Mona Lisa does its face recognition entirely on your Mac. Your camera images, face data, and any intruder recordings never leave your device and are never sent to us or anyone else. We have no account system and no cloud.

1. Face data and camera images

When you enroll a face, Mona Lisa converts the camera image into a mathematical representation (a “face embedding”) using an on-device model. Enrolled face data and the images captured during monitoring are processed and stored locally on your Mac only. They are never transmitted to us, to Paddle, or to any third party. Uninstalling the App and deleting its data removes them.

2. Intruder recordings

If Mona Lisa locks the screen, it may record video of the locked period. These recordings are saved locally on your Mac, under your user folder. You control them; we never receive them.

3. Licensing information

To check whether a Mac has an active subscription, the App sends a hashed device identifier (a one-way SHA-256 hash derived from your Mac’s hardware identifier) to our licensing server. This value cannot be reversed to identify your hardware and is not linked to your name. The server returns a signed license token that the App stores locally and verifies offline. We do not collect your face data, camera images, or personal files for licensing.

4. Payment information

Purchases are handled by our reseller and Merchant of Record, Paddle.com. When you subscribe, Paddle collects and processes the billing information needed to take payment (such as your name, email, payment details, and country for tax). We do not receive or store your full payment details. Paddle’s handling of that data is described in the Paddle Privacy Policy.

5. This website

This website is a static download and information page. It does not use tracking cookies or advertising trackers. The App is distributed via GitHub, and downloading it is subject to GitHub’s privacy statement.

6. Your rights

Because we do not hold your personal data (it stays on your device, and payment data is held by Paddle), most data requests should be directed to Paddle for billing information. For anything concerning the App itself, contact us using the details below and we will help.

7. Children

Mona Lisa is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

8. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time; the “Last updated” date above reflects the latest version.
